Our mission is to make it possible to personalize disciple-making for anyone, anywhere.

We do this through:

One-to-one relationships that foster deep connection

One-to-one disciple-making cultivates the trust and authenticity needed for life change. This is the way that Jesus often interacted with people, like with the woman at the well, Zacchaeus, Nicodemus, Martha, and others—and these interactions were deeply personal and globally transformative.

Slow-motion pacing that cultivates lasting transformation

While many disciple-making approaches last just weeks or months, SmallCircle's is a year or more. This unhurried approach, in the context of a trusting one-to-one relationship, allows space for personal questions and struggles to rise to the surface. These confidential conversations often stay hidden, but when there is an intentional space for these customized and confidential conversations, life change happens at a deeper level.

A replicable model that multiplies disciple-makers

Disciples who make disciples is at the heart of the SmallCircle model. During the disciple-making journey, the SmallCircle tools are designed to help disciples identify the person they will disciple in the future. An apprenticeship strategy near the end of the journey has resulted in over 85% of disciples becoming disciple-makers. We are now seeing churches reaching sixth generations of disciple-making and beyond.

Donor-funded tools that reduce barriers for disciple-making

Because we believe all good things are a gift from God, we want to freely regift the SmallCircle tools to anyone, anywhere. The support of generous financial investors makes it possible to bring disciple-making around the world.

Our Story
SmallCircle began as a church plant experiment in 2006 when founder Steve McCoy saw that a one-to-one approach was often overlooked by churches focusing primarily on groups and worship services. In 2012, SmallCircle emerged as an entity beyond the original church plant. Since then, SmallCircle has been providing training and resources for one-to-one disciple-making relationships, and is currently used in more than 145 countries around the world.
Our Beliefs
SmallCircle is grounded and motivated by the historic Christian faith and mainstream evangelicalism. Threaded throughout each gospel, Jesus consistently interacts at a one-to-one personal level with others. It also reflects biblical examples of the relationships between Paul and Timothy and David and Jonathan, which were transformational and world-shaping. We are intentionally non-denominational so that our tools are accessible to anyone, anywhere.
Our Name
Our name, SmallCircle, comes from the “smallest circle” that is commonly missed when most disciple-making efforts focus primarily on groups. In worship services, people may be seen; in small groups, they may be heard. But we believe we need a smaller circle, one where a person can truly be known. This “smaller circle,” made up of one person plus one person, is the foundation of our deeply personalized model.

The expansion of the SmallCircle mission is fueled by generous financial investors.

Together, we are catalyzing a vision for renewed disciple-making cultures around the world.
